Pre-Heresy ideas

Some questions about Pre-Heresy |
|||
| What equipment would be more or less common? | |||
| Plasma Weaponry in general is less common, with
Plasma Cannons only on vehicles (mainly Dreads), due to power restraints. Melta Weaponry is very uncommon, no multimelta and meltagun in experimental use only. Antigrav is more common, with Jetbikes in use by Marine Legions. Jump-packs in use, but difficult to maintain. Autocannons would be used as the Assault cannon was in development. The conversion beamer was an imperial weapon that disappeared, though it probably became the Plasma weaponry. There were hand flamers used by squads. |
|||
| What armor marks would be 'standard'? The newer Mk 5 and 6, or Tried and Tested Mks II and IV? | |||
| Mark V was only just coming in at the very end of the Heresy, IIRC. Mk III and IV would have been most common (Mk IV 'Heresy' armor being a cobbled-together mess as supplies ran low during the conflict.) Mk V came into production towards the end of the Heresy, but was not in widespread use. | |||
| What units would not exist, or be extremely rare? | |||
| The Razorback, predator with lascannon turret,
Land Raider Crusader are all post-heresy developments. In addition assault cannons, Cyclone missile launchers are post-heresy development. |
|||
| What units would exist that do not exist now? | |||
| Jump-packers would be less common, due to the
problems with keeping their packs operational. Bikers would be riding Jetbikes or the old Vincent Black Shadows rather than the current Hogs. Probably a lot more unit variety between Chapters, as the standard Tac/Dev/Ass combo was a product of the Codex Astartes. The Land Raider Spartan, the Terminator transporting Land Raider was in use. There were robots who were controlled by the Adeptus Mechanicus/Tech marines. |
|||
| What bits of models would be inappropriate? (e.g. chest eagles, new bolt guns etc) | |||
| The only Legion autorized to wear the Aquila was
the Emperor's Children. The new bolt guns are the "goodwin" pattern are are not really pre-heresy style (though neither are the Chaos ones) The current assault packs would need to be replaced with the beer keg flight packs. |

| The Mark 3 helmet was originally fixed in place on the Mark 3 armor, but in the current version of the fluff, it is a mobile helmet. Iron Warriors head #4 is a good match. The Loyal plastic Marine torso without the chest eagle can be made into a Mark 3 by green stuffing a vertical plate of armor in the center. The Iron Warriors Warsmith is good for reference. | ||||
| Making MK III | The Iron Warriors Warsmith is wearing Mk 3 armor, but this metal mini needs so much work to look pre-heresy (and loyal) that its best to use it as reference for "current" Mk 3 armor. | |||
| MK IV | ||||
| The Mark 4 helmet is like a beakie because of its facial protection, which are two planes of armor that cover the nose and mouth. | ||||
| Making MK IV | Iron Warriors head #3 is Mark 4 (with horns.)
The Mark 4 torso had 4 cables meeting in the center of its torso (like the
Mark 5) but there should be a small hexagonal unit in the center with an
eagle or skull instead of the Mark 5's x-shaped unit with "air vent". The metal Iron Warriors Head #3 is the best Mk 4 head I know of. Just clip off the silly horns and file the damage smooth. The plastic cabled torso is Mk 5, but it has no eagle. If your handy with green stuff, you can extend the chest armor past the waist of the cabled torso (over the cod piece), which ends up looking like a Mk 4 torso. To model older legs, you can use the kneepad-less legs, or if your up to it, carve the plastic kneepads to a flattened hexagon shape (I usually trim the top part of the tear drop like shape.) |

The Mark 5 helmet was supposed to be based on the Terminator helmet, but in the current version, it seems to be a Mark 7 helmet with the "mohawk" vent on the top filled off, and studs covering the entire skull cap. The plastic Chaos Marine sprue has a Mark 5 helmet, above the cabled torso. | |||
